The author of this piece is unknown, but many believe that he is a white male. It’s interesting, please take a look.

I don't think anyone was under some real illusion that the election of Barack Obama actually means the end of racism in America . I'm pretty sure that the president-elect knew it better than anyone. After all, he saw it every day, from the moment he announced his candidacy. To some degree, he saw it within his own party during the primaries. And he saw it in all ugliness during the general election. For half of this country, he was "That One". No matter how big and clear his victory was. No matter how smart he is. No matter how decent he is. No matter what a true patriot he is. No matter how optimistic and positive his vision for America was. All that didn't matter. Because at the end of the day, he was still black.

I'm quite old. I remember, vaguely, where my parents were on November 22, 1963. I've seen so many presidents. Some were feared, some were hated, some were adored, some popular and some not. But all of them, without exception, were treated with the highest respect deserving the office of the president of the United States .

That is until a black man won the right to occupy this office. It's been 13 months now, and in the eyes of so many, Barack Obama is still that one. He is being disrespected and at the same time being held to the highest standard of any president I've ever seen – and not just by the Republican side! He has to perform three times better than any president in history, and even that may not be enough.

For the media, he is many more times just "Obama" than "President Obama". They create scandals out of nothing issues. It took them at least 6 years to start giving Bush a small part of the shit he deserved. It took them 6 months to begin crap all over Obama because he's yet to fix the catastrophe that was left for him.

They use condescending tones when they talk about him, and only mildly less condescending when they talk TO him. With anyone else, CNNwouldn't dare go to commercials every time the president speaks, like they did during that summit on Thursday. They wouldn't dare be counting how many minutes George Bush or Bill Clinton were talking. Chris Mathews wouldn't dare make an issue out of Ronald Regan calling members of congress by their first name, like he is not actually the president. They fully cooperate with the Right-Wing smear machine when it comes to president Obama's national security performance – even if almost every independent and military expert actually thinks that he's a terrific Commander-in-Chief. You'll never see them on TV, and virtually no one from the Left, in congress and outside, defend the president on this matter.

I don't care about the Far-Right. They're just crazy ignorant Neanderthals. It's the way the beltway and the mainstream treats this president that is shocking. On Thursday, almost every Republican had no trouble interrupting him in the middle of a sentence. They looked like they're going to vomit every time they had to say "Mr. President". They all had this Eric-Cantor-Smirk whenever he spoke. Then they went out and started to spit their stupid talking points, to the delight of the media. Sarah Palin, a woman who can hardly read, thinks that he was "arrogant" towards John McCain, and somehow this is an important news. Because you see, "Obama's Arrogance" is the talking point of the day.

Oh, those talking points. He is arrogant (because he knows the facts better than all of them combined). He is an elitist (because he uses big words that they don't understand). He is weak on national security (because he actually thinks about the consequences). He divides the country (well, he did that the day he had the audacity to win the election). Worst of all, he actually thinks that he's the president. He even dared to say so on Thursday. How arrogant of him. You'd think that previous presidents didn't have any ego. Somehow it turned out that the one president who treats even his biggest opponents with the utmost respect – is the arrogant one. I wonder why?

I expected that his winning the Presidency would bring out some ugliness, but it's been far worse than I imagined. The racism coming from the Right is obviously clear and shameless, but there's also some hidden and maybe subconscious and disturbing underline tone behind some of the things that I read here and throughout the Left blogosphere, even before the end of Obama's first year - 'He's weak, he's spineless, he's got no balls, primary him in 2012'. It'll be dishonest to deny that.

The fact is that for millions in America, Barack Obama is this uppity black man (Not even a "real" black), who received good education only due to affirmative action, and has no right to litter the sacred Oval Office with his skin color. They just can't accept the fact that the president is a black man, who unlike his predecessor, was actually legally elected. But what's really sad is that it's not just the fringe, its deep deep in mainstream America.

Barack Obama's ability to remain above all this slob, to keep his optimism and his strange and mostly unjustified faith in people, while continuing to gracefully deal with an endless shitstorm – is one of the most inspiring displays of human quality I have ever seen. And I can only hope that the Cosmos is on his side because God is and He never makes a mistake.

Many people wonder why Republicans and Tea Bagger legislators
are so hard on President Obama.

Frederick Douglass gave us the answer many years ago.

Though the colored man is no longer subject to barter and sale, he is surrounded by an adverse settlement which fetters all his movements. In his downward course he meets with no resistance, but his course upward is resented and resisted at every step of his progress. If he comes in ignorance, rags and wretchedness he conforms to the popular belief of his character, and in that character he is welcome; but if he shall come as a gentleman, a scholar and a statesman, he is hailed as a contradiction to the national faith concerning his race, and his coming is resented as impudence. In one case he may provoke contempt and derision, but in the other he is an affront to pride and provokes malice.

Just Because He's  Black

A white man asked his black friend, 'Are you voting for Barack Obama
just because he's black?'

The black man responded by saying,
'Why not? Hell, in this country men
Are pulled over every day just cause
    They're black; passed over for
Promotions just cause they're black;
    Considered to be criminals just
Cause they're black; and thousands of you
Won't be voting for him just because he's
    Black! However, you do not
Seem to have a problem with that! This country
    Was built with the sweat
And whip off the black slaves' back, and now a
    Descendent of those same
Slaves has a chance to lead the same country,
    Where we weren't even
Considered to be people, where we weren't allowed
    To be educated, drink
From the same water fountains, eat in the same
    Restaurants, or even
Vote. So yes! I'm going to vote for him! But it's
    Not just because he's
Black, but because he is hope, he is change, and he
    Now allows me to
Understa
nd when my grandson says that he wants to be
    President when he
Grows up, it is not a fairy tale but a short term goal.
    He now sees,
Understands and knows that he can achieve, withstand and do
ANYTHING just because he's black.

President Obama Can't Save You
by Solae Dehvine

Hooray!!!  We have a Black President.  Let the world rejoice ... WAIT ... Obama has been in office for a while now.

So we have ... excuse me ... we have had a Black President for a few years, but now what?  Ahhh, that is the question.  You see some think just because President Obama is Black that he is going to come save every Black person and give them a room in the White House.  So NOT true.

We have a Black President, yeah we have re-written history.  The unattainable is now in reach.  (not like I thought it was impossible in the first place but that's another story).

So he is here and present in the oval office ... but now what?

The WHAT is that it's time for you and everyone else around you to get to work.  If you're still looking in your mail box for a reparations check from slavery, you need to quit wasting your time.  Creating the "Whoa As Me" sympathy enducing tirade is old.  You can't sit up and wait for the President to save you when you are too lazy to save yourself.

Hell, he is only ONE man.  He has millions of other citizens and constituents to deal with.  Yeah, I'm sure he cares about EVERY American citizen but lets face it, how can he save you if you aren't willing to save yourself?

How can President Obama make you rich if you aren't willing to put in the work?  How can he make a change for you if you're doing the same old things that you did before he was elected?  He CAN'T ... and he WON'T.  President Obama can't save you.  But you can save yourself.

Stop blaming everyone else for your problems (including the President) and get up and do something for yourself.  I'm not writing to preach to you, I'm telling you something I know personally.

When President Obama was elected I believed that "YES WE CAN" make a difference.  I forgot that he said WE ... not HE ... but WE.  But soon I fell back into the same routine.  It was 2010 when I vowed not to live another year without reaching my goals.  I had to realize that no change would come until I stepped up and made it happen.

That's when I stopped putting off writing.  That's when I made my dream a reality and started writing.  How did I do it?

1.    I stopped procrastinating and got to work.
2.    I put everything else to the side ... nothing else mattered but acheiving my goal.
3.    I believed I could do it.

Take my steps, put your goal in the place of mine, and get started.  President Obama can't save you, but you don't need him to.

YOU CAN SAVE YOURSELF ... YES YOU CAN!!!

DID YOU GET MAD?

Now, since Obama's regime, all of a sudden, folks have gotten mad and want to "Take America Back"??? . . . . . BACK??? Back to What / Back to WHERE is my question?

~  After The 8 Years Of The Bush/Cheney Disaster, Now You Get Mad?
~  You didn't get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and  appointed a President.

~  You didn't get mad when Bush borrowed more money from foreign sources than the previous 42 Presidents combined.
~  You didn't get mad when over 10 billion dollars in cash just disappeared in Iraq .
~  You didn't get mad when you found out we were torturing people.
~   You didn't get mad when Bush embraced trade and outsourcing policies that shipped 6 million American jobs out of the country.

~  You finally got mad when a black man was elected President and decided that people in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick. Yes, illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, job losses by the millions, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, and the worst economic disaster since 1929 are all okay with you, but helping fellow Americans who are sick...Oh, Hell No!!

Doesn't it make you mad that so many in the USA are out of work but when you call a lot of customer service centers you get foreign reps to talk to that you have a hard time understanding?!

What if when we are talking on the phone to any US customer service representative that is based in a foreign country (like India ) - any time you call an 800 number (for a credit card, banking, charter communications, health insurance, insurance, you name it) and you are transferred to a representative (like in India), we do the following:

After you connect and you realize that the customer service representative is not from the USA (you can always ask if you are not sure about the accent), please very politely (very politely - this is not about trashing other cultures) say, "I'd like to speak to a customer service representative in the United States of America ".   The rep might suggest talking to his/her manager, but, again, politely say, "Thank you, but I'd like to speak to a customer service representative in the USA ".  YOU WILL BE IMMEDIATELY CONNECTED to a rep in the USA (or so we've heard).  It only takes less than one minute to have your call re-directed to the USA .  Then ask the new rep what city he or she is in.

If tomorrow, every US citizen, who has to make such a call and then requests a US rep, imagine how that would ultimately impact the number of US jobs that would need to be created ASAP.  Imagine what would happen if every US citizen insisted on talking to only US phone reps from this day on.  Remember - the goal is to restore jobs back here at home - not to be abrupt or rude to a foreign phone rep.

Facts Re: Maritime Law

This is not to excuse, explain nor condone the actions of the Captain of the Costa Concordia but to give you certain facts.

In light of the events of the past few days, I think you should know the following:

1. There is no maritime law that obligates the Captain of a ship to remain aboard until everyone else is off the vessel.

2. There is no maritime law that women children nor elderly are given first preference in lifeboats when the order to abandoning ship is given.

3.  There is no maritime law that obligates a Captain to "go down with the ship."

It's always good to know the facts.

THE "Y" GENERATION

People born before 1946 were called
The Greatest Generation

People born between 1946 and 1964 are called
The Baby Boomers

People born between 1965 and 1979 are called
Generation X

And people born between 1980 and 2010
are called
Generation Y

Why do we call the last group Generation Y?

Y should I get a job?
Y should I leave home and find my own place?
Y should I get a car when I can borrow yours?
Y should I clean my room?
Y should I wash and iron my own clothes?
Y should I buy and food?

But a cartoonist explained it very eloquently

They're written by Andy Rooney, a man who has the gift of saying so much with so few words. Enjoy.......
If you will take the time to read these. I promise you'll come away with an enlightened perspective. The subjects covered affect us all on a daily basis:

I've learned.... That the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person.
I've learned.... That when you're in love, it shows.
I've learned.... That just one person saying to me, "You've made my day!" makes my day.
I've learned... That having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the most peaceful feelings in the world.
I've learned.... That being kind is more important than being right.
I've learned.... That you should never say no to a gift from a child.
I've learned.... That I can always pray for someone when I don't have the strength to help him in some other way.
I've learned.... That no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone needs a friend to act goofy with.
I've learned... That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand.
I've learned.... That simple walks with my father around the blocrk on summer nights when I was a child did wonders for me as an adult.
I've learned.... That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.
I've learned.... That we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for.
I've learned.... That money doesn't buy class.
I've learned.... That it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.
I've learned.... That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.
I've learned... That to ignore the facts does not change the facts.
I 've learned.... That when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you.
I've learned.... That love, not time, heals all wounds.
I've learned.... That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.
I've learned.... That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile.
I've learned.... That no one is perfect until you fall in love with them.
I've learned... That life is tough, but I'm tougher.
I've learned... That opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you miss.
I've learned.... That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.
I've learned.... That I wish I could have told my Mom that I love her one more time before she passed away.
I've learned.... That one should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them.
I've learned..... That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.
I've learned..... That when your newly born grandchild holds your little finger in his little fist, that you're hooked for life.
I've learned.... That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it.
I've learned.... That the less time I have to work with, the more things I get done.

Why white America perhaps fear Michelle
more than Barack.

Excerpts from a  'Jack & Jill politics'newsletter:

As hard as it is to accept a black president, it's even harder to accept a black first lady.  The First Lady has always held a beloved  sentimental mother / wife of the nation symbolism.

Conservatives are not ready to have to look at this very BLACK woman with her degrees and her fierceness and see her as the  epitome of the American mother/wife.

This will be a first for white people. They do not want this black woman in the White house as their first lady.  That New Yorker  cartoon was about Michelle.  She was its focal point ... if you looked closely ... she is the leader, the one starting the 'revolution' ... they want you to imagine.

MSNBC's Chris Matthews said, in the course of covering the Obama  candidacy, 'He (Barack Obama)  brings none of the ' bad stuff,  you know?' By 'Bad Stuff', he meant the legacy of [whites]  enslaving  Africans in this country, keeping them as second-class  citizens until 1965, a mere 11 years before this country celebrated its 200th  anniversary.  You know, 'the original sin' or ' the birth defect' as Condi Rice called it.

Barack escapes
this 'bad stuff' only because his mother was white and may have had ancestors involved in the slave trade.  Also because Barack's father was not African American.  He was full-blooded African and therefore Barack had no ancestors enslaved by America.  So thewhite guilt factor is  missing when they think of him.  HOWEVER, NO SUCH LUCK WITH MICHELLE!

Michelle Obama is a direct threat and lightning bolt against  White Superiority because she'sBlack..  VISIBLY  BLACK! But it's important to note, she does not, in any way, shape, or form, conform to the acceptable Black Pathologies that enable White Supremacy to sigh with relief [welfare mother, fatherlesschild, druggie,  etc.].

Michelle was raised in a neighborhood. In a home.  With TWO parents.  No child revolving in and outof jail. Raised by a Black man who not only provided for his family, but did so, WITH A DISABILITY.   Her mother had a working class job secretary - but it was taken ONLY after she had seen her  youngest child settle into HIGH SCHOOL.

Michelle Obama's poise, her confidence, her aura that was created by that humble Black man, who by all accounts, adored her. He told her that she is worthy, and so, when you have that told to you by the first man who loves and protects you,  you seek that validation in your choice of mate,  you'll settle  for nothing less, and Michelle hasn't.

Michelle Obama, doesn't fit any of the acceptable Black  pathologies.  And when you don't fit the acceptable Black pathologies, then you must be destroyed.  Michelle Obama has become the face of the Black America whose existence is routinely denied by this country. Think about it.

In ONE generation, the face of this 'Invisible America' has gone from living on the top floor of a bungalow,  to living in The White House. And yet,  Michelle Obama, refuses to say ' I'm special' in order to give white America its usual security blanket [that she is one of the exceptions rather than the rule] So what should be done?

Beat her down into submission.

Michelle Obama represents everything we black women want our daughters to be.  When we stand up for her we stand up for ourselves.  No other  women in the world are more neglected and abused as African women period. Michelle looks like [our] daughters, her daughters look like us.

We love the way Barack looks at her; we adore the way he looks at his daughters.  The Obamas represent the hope that we can be loved by our men and they will support us in whatever we do.

Little African American
girls need a vision and dream of what it is like to be loved by a man wholooks just like them.

Was America ready for a First Lady who looks like her? A regular black woman?  Not a passable, biracial, curly-haired girl that they call black, but a regular black woman from the south side of Chicago ? With dark skin?

She is the face of The Woman on the largest pedestal in the country!  A self-confessed 'loud-mouth' black woman?  The Obamas succeeding, turns white supremacy upside down.  And not because a black MAN is in the White House; but, because a black WOMAN is  there who didn't have to come in the back door to lie in bed with the President Of The United States.

A BLACK PRAYER

This is deep, so take your time.

Why Did You Make Me Black Lord .
Lord ... Why did you make me black?
Why did you make someone
the world would hold back?
Black is the color of dirty clothes,
of grimy hands and feet...
Black is the color of darkness,
of tired beaten streets...

Why did you give me thick lips,
a broad nose and kinky hair?
Why did you create someone
who receives the hated stare?

Black is the color of the bruised eye
when someone gets hurt...
Black is the color of darkness,
black is the color of dirt.

Why is my bone structure so thick,
my hips and cheeks so high?
Why are my eyes brown,
and not the color of the sky?

Why do people think I'm useless?
How come I feel so used?
Why do people see my skin
and think I should be abused?

Lord, I just don't understand...
What is it about my skin?
Why is it some people want to hate me
and not know the person within?

Black is what people are "Labeled"
when others want to keep them away...
Black is the color of shadows cast...
Black is the end of the day.

Lord you know my own people mistreat me, and you know this just ain't right...
They don't like my hair, they don't like my skin, as they say I'm too dark or too light!

Lord, don't you think
it's time to make a change?
Why don't you redo creation
and make everyone the same?

God's Reply:

Why did I make you black? Why did I make you black?

I made you in the color of coal
from which beautiful diamonds are formed...
I made you in the color of oil,
the black gold which keeps people warm.

Your color is the same as the rich dark soil that grows the food you need...
Your color is the same as the black stallion and panther, Oh what majestic creatures indeed!

All colors of the heavenly rainbow
can be found throughout every nation...
When all these colors are blended,
you become my greatest creation!

Your hair is the texture of lamb's wool, such a beautiful creature is he...
I am the shepherd who watches them,
I will ALWAYS watch over thee!

You are the color of the midnightsky,
I put star glitter in your eyes...
There's a beautiful smile hidden
behind your pain...
That's why your cheeks are so high!

You are the color of dark clouds
from the hurricanes I create in September...
I made your lips so full and thick,
so when you kiss...they will remember!

Your stature is strong,
your bone structure thick to withstand
the burden of time...
The reflection you see in the mirror,
that image that looks back, that is MINE!
